Women who show their Awrah to other Women at Weddings – Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan [Arabic/English]

Questioner :

“What is your advice for someone who allows his wife, daughter, or sister to go to weddings, while showing most of her body, arguing with the fact that there will only be women [present] and the awrah of the women to another women is [only] from the navel and the knees ?”

Shaykh Saalih al-Fawzaan :

“This is a lie ! Her awrah is not [only] from the navel to the knee, her awrah is all of her body. What is shown is her face, hands and whatever needs [to be shown] due to a necessity – her face, her hands and her feets. Her awrah with women is the same as it is [considered] with her mahrams, because Allaah mentioned them both in one verse.

“and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers, or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their [Muslim] women [i.e. their sisters in Islam], or the [female] slaves whom their right hands posses, or old male servants who lack vigour, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex.” [Surat An-Nûr : 31]

So, the women [have the same ruling] as her mahrams. By Allaah ! I ask you, would a woman go to her father or brother while wearing something which [only] covers what is between her navel and knee ? Would anyone do this ? No one would do such a thing. By Allah, this is evil !

So likewise, she should not go out to women except with that which she would go out to her father  or brother or her mahrams.”

  1. If I am breast feeding in front of other women, and my child is wriggling around as older babies above one do, am I sinful?

Or should women just stay in a room and not go out for 2 years? most likely longer due to consecutive children?

Or should we not breastfeed our older babies on demand?
